Madeira is warm all year round, but every month looks a little different. In this category I describe the island month by month: the weather in Funchal and in the mountains, the sea temperature, events, flights and what’s worth doing at that time of year. I’m starting with the months I’ve spent on the island myself. You can compare air and sea temperatures and rainy days for all 12 months on the Madeira weather month by month page.
Funchal’s Christmas lights from 1 December to 10 January, the Christmas market, Noite do Mercado and New Year’s Eve fireworks over the bay. Plus the weather and what’s closed over the holidays – my plan for December in Madeira.
Madeira in February: the weather (around 20°C by day), Carnival in Funchal, gardens in bloom, things to do and accommodation prices. With photos from my February trips in 2025 and 2026.
Madeira in March: around 21°C in Funchal, the coldest sea of the year and snow on Pico do Arieiro. Easter 2027, dolphins, gardens in bloom and accommodation prices – I spent March 2025 working here remotely with my dog.
Madeira in November: around 23°C by day, a 21–22°C sea and rain on 7 days on average. Festa da Castanha and St Martin’s Day, levadas, dolphin trips and accommodation prices – my very first trip was in November.
